Reclaiming Wider Ecologies of Knowledge | Pedagogy, art, and community building for a more eco-centered future
In the framework of an ongoing Grounding~Seeding exhibition at tranzit.sk in Bratislava Alessandra Pomarico as part of a curatorial team of the show will be holding a series of presentations and workshops.
As the multiple crises of today are showing, our paradigms are becoming insufficient and in fact constitute a threat to the preservation of life on our planet. Institutions of knowledge production are complicit in creating asymmetrical, exploitative, and extractive dynamics towards other beings, cosmogonies, and economies; but they can also bring about a fundamental shift of our imaginary toward emancipation.
~ How do we learn and what’s there to unlearn?
~ How to reclaim wider knowledge production and creatively decouple from the conditions reproduced by the dominant western neoliberal educational system? Can we collectively take responsibility for creating learning spaces devoted to regenerating life and communities?
~ Can we consider pedagogies as politics and see how we can shift from hegemonic epistemologies and narratives that drive our unsustainable present towards more eco-centric ways of knowing and walking on Earth?
Artistic practices are a tool to challenge the status quo and prefigure a different way of being, knowing and relating, helping us question and disinvest from a culture that commodifies life to build regenerative alternatives.
Alessandra Pomarico will share her experience as part of Free Home University, an 8-year, ongoing experiment at the intersection of art, pedagogy, activism, and community building. She will also talk about the eco-justice learning movement Ecoversities Alliance.
